Research Engineer at Lund University

Workplace Description

The research group, located at BMC on Sölvegatan 19 in Lund, at the Department of Neurology (the laboratory for stem cells and restorative neurology) is now seeking a Research Engineer.

The main scientific question of the research group is to investigate how to support spontaneous regeneration to improve functional recovery after ischemic stroke through the transplantation of stem cells and reprogrammed cell-derived neurons and monocytes. The research group is now looking for a research engineer who has the experience and knowledge to independently perform experimental work related to the reprogramming of human cells and conduct in vitro and in vivo work in animal models for stroke and multiple sclerosis.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Tasks and responsibilities will include completing ongoing projects initiated in the research group that require further experimental work to generate scientific data. Therefore, we are looking for a person to work on the following tasks:

  • Work with immunocytochemical analysis of secondary lesions in the thalamus after cortical stroke and assess the properties of oligodendrocytes generated from human skin cells.
  • Work with microfluidic systems that are under development for modeling stroke in human organotypic culture systems.

Other tasks may also be included.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Master's degree or higher in Biology or Biomedical Sciences.
  • Ability for creative thinking.
  • High work capacity.
  • Good collaboration skills.

Desirable for the position are:

  • Knowledge in neuroscience and immunology.
  • Training in molecular and cell biology that meets the requirements to perform planned experiments.
  • Practical skills in generating nerve cells (cortical neurons and oligodendrocytes) through viral transfection, working with stem and other cell cultures, conducting gene expression experiments, and immunocytochemistry. Work with animal models of neurodegenerative diseases.

The employment is limited according to Special Fixed-Term Employment SÄVA 5§ p1 LAS and is full-time. The desired start date is 2026-03-01 or by agreement with an end date of 2026-07-31.
